Important ASCM APICS Announcement

Dec. 14, 2020

President and Board Announcement

December 2020

As our world evolves into the "new normal" so does ASCM APICS. In January, ASCM is formally consolidating APICS Chapters, to form what they believe, will be a more robust and synergistic structure. ASCM studies noted the difficulties in recruiting volunteer leadership and the various abilities to offer quality membership and professional development opportunities. There will be approximately 60 US based chapters remaining after the consolidation.

In January, the APICS Salt Lake City Chapter and the APICS Sundance Chapter will be merging. The new organization will be called ASCM Utah and will encompass the entire State of Utah. Our chapter sites will be updated in January reflecting those changes. As our new chapter covers a much larger geography, we will face different challenges, logistics being just one. We will have educational liaisons with a much broader network of colleges and universities. We will be able to offer Custom-Fit Training and funding options to a wide membership for both virtual and F2F training experiences. We plan on offering public courses in each area of certification at least once per year in geography. Ideally, we would offer F2F courses in Northern, Central, and Southern Utah. We will offer virtual courses in all areas of certification next year. Private on-site and virtual training is also available through the chapter and our IDP endorsed training staff.

F2F professional development meetings (PDMs) and plant tours will also be discussed, but at this time, these opportunities are unfortunately on-hold. There will be a time when these much-needed experiences will be again offered ... Virtual DPMs will be offered in 2021 ... including a presentation on DDMRP mid-Winter. All members will be invited free of charge. We are hoping for a return to normal next year.

Our new organization is looking for energetic and insightful volunteer leadership. We are hoping to fill our vacant positions as we roll into the new organization. Volunteering can be rewarding and we need and appreciate your time and talents. We currently are searching to fill the following rolls:

SVP Greater Salt Lake City (Salt Lake City East, West, and North to Logan) , SVP Sundance (Utah County East, West and South to Saint George), VP Membership, VP Communication, VP Education, and Student Liaisons at all schools with a supply chain program.  If you would like to participate, please let us know. We would love to talk about the opportunities and your engagement. We will offer board training ... the opportunity for you to serve on a no-profit board and to grow your management and leadership skills within supply chain.

Our best always,
Dave Simpson, President ASCM Utah  / 801-330-8468  / [email protected]
